Cracked heels occur when you have a medical condition such as eczema or psoriasis, or lack of humidity, hormonal changes, alternating footwear, excess weight, inadequate care, repeated exposure from dry to hot conditions, age and much more.
Our skin is elastic, however, if it is affected by severe hyperkeratosis the skin becomes very thin and dry and if you are not careful, dry skin can lead to cracking and peeling. This type of cracking can cause deep trauma and wounds that can easily get infected if not treated. And if you happen to have diabetes, a simple infection can become a serious health risk. So, it is not just an ugly sight, but cracked heels can also be very dangerous.
